SIGNATURE CHAPTER PROGRAMS

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Tau Omega Chapter has done their best to live up to the ideals of the organization by being "Supreme in Service to All Mankind."


Currently, we offer scholarships to graduating high school students, voter registration and education drives, host various workshops and forums, and some of the programs listed below:

  • Books for Babies (est. 1990)
  • Sponsor of the Harlem Little League AKA Spirit Team (est. 2002)
  • College Fair (est. 2019)
  • MLK Jr. Day of Service Care Packages (est. 2019)
  • Louise Gaither LeadHERship AKAdemy (est. 2021 - Members only)
  • Doris R. Conner LeadHERship Bootcamp (est. 2022 - Members only)
  • Day of Cheer at Harlem Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation
  • Legacy of a Century Cotillion (est. 2024)


Historic Chapter programming includes, but is not limited to:

  • Participation in the Formation of the National Council of Negro Women (1935)
  • Mobile X-ray program (1950 – 1960)
  • AKA day in Congress (1964)
  • Established the Sorority’s first 501c3, The Tau Omega Charitable Trust Fund (1968)
  • Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald at Carnegie Hall (1968)
  • Salute to the Congressional Black Caucus (1971)
  • Big Sister Program for girls 12 through 18 years of age (1980’s)
  • Teen Parent Support Program with P.S. 911 (1987 until the school’s closing in 2008)
  • Sound Experience Concerts at Mother Zion AME Church and the Aaron Davis Halls (1980-1995)
  • African Village Projects in Senegal, West Africa (1984-87)
  • 2010 Census
